I was just wondering a few things. My truck is a 1978 macho w150 power wagon. I recently bought it, and I was wondering a few things. First, when you click on the link, you'll see that my truck does have the yellow pin stripes, but my question is, why are they so close. It's the first macho i've seen with the two stripes so close. I'm not saying I hate it, I was just wondering. Second, power wagons up until 1980 were full time 4x4. But I believe my truck is part time 4x4. Because when I switch it into neutral, the light on the dash that says 4 wheel drive turns off. Can someone please varify this for me or explain what neutral really means. In the original brochures, it says neutral means that power to both the rear and front axles is disengaged. I know they did alot of experimenting in the 70's, so I'm wondering if my truck was like an experiment to Dodge to see if they would get more sales with the part time 4x4. Please post your thoughts on the stripes and 4x4, thank you. By the way, this macho looks alot better now without the plow and light bar on it. I'm doing an original restoration. http://www.machopowerwagon.com/phpBB3/d ... &mode=view

Never mind what I said about the 4x4. We talked to my mechanic, and he said that it is full time 4x4. Neutral just means 4x4 for regular driving, I believe, and the rest of the settings are for other situations. I'm getting a conversion kit put in the truck, so we can drive in 4x2 too. By the way, from your experiences, what is the best setting to drive in to get maximum mpg's with the least amount of wear? Thank you.

Your truck appears to have the 1977 double yellow stripes on it.(see inset photo off this site of a stock '77 Macho). Also the grill and hood are 79-80 style truck. '78 should be bird bath hood. Grill for '78 should have blinker light to the inside of each single headlight. So your truck may have gone though a change over the years (accident?).

Take another look at dodgeguy's photo. The grille is a 77-78. The hood appears to be birdbath, because the 79 and later hoods are a bit taller in the front. I could be wrong, but I think the angle and lighting of the photo could throw you off.

Your right! I can see the "Dodge" imprint on the top of the grill. I guess what through me off was the Power Wagon name plate on the side of the fender. Should be on the bird bath hood for a '77 & early '78. Late year assembly date on the side of the fender for '78.

Thanks guys for the replies. It does have a birdbath hood, but not the badging, even though it was built in September of '77, making it a 78. I also, just bought a 1977 power wagon grill in almost perfect shape. My question now is, are there any differences between the 77s and 78s grills.

Thanks. Ya, if you you guys need any parts for any mopar vehicles, specifically dodge and jeeps, theres a huge mopar guy that lives near me with pretty much every part you need for anything on your vehicle. He has a huge yard with tons of old vehicles like power rams and old jeeps from the 70's that he strips parts from to sell to other people that need them. He has orignal power wagon rims, and every part that was on those trucks. If he doesn't have it, he can get it. I got emergency brake parts from him along with a near perfect grill off a 77 power wagon, cable lines for the rear brakes, ramcharger seats that I will dye black, door buttons ( so the cab light light will turn on when I open the door ), front and rear bumpers. He is one of the few guys in the country doing this, and he lives near me, like a few towns away. He gets calls over seas, like from people that live in England and Italy. He was selling parts to this one guy in England doing a $ 30,000 restoration on his Lil' Red Express, and he wanted matching # parts. I will be going back for a few more things. I was with my dad there who grew up with the macho power wagons around, and he said that he hasn't seen those tires in nearly 30 years ( because the mopar guy had old goodyear tracker A/T's on one of his trucks in good condition. They weren't dry, and still had tread. I didn't buy them though, because it didn't look like he had a set and they were on a truck. ) It was a practically a museum. He even said that macho power wagons were really nice rare trucks that are head turners. It was just cool to hear it come from someone else, because no one else knows what a macho power wagon is.

How's his pricing? I been going to PicK-Pull for everything I get. I am lucky, I have three yards to pull from in my area. The prices are give away because they do not know what you have brought up to them to purchase. Good grills 77-78 go for $25 plus tax. Seats at $25 for bench, buckets for $15. Brackets $8, 74-80 Ramcharger full removal tops $275, Radiators $45.00. The list goes on.

Well the prices you've stated are much better because you get them from a junkyard. He likes to give deals, but will price a little high on certain rare parts, because he knows he's one of the few guys with this stuff. By the way, how do I post a pic on here?
