I know I've touched on the idea here before, but I was wanting to get some ideas on how tough it would be to turn a pre 1979 PW into a '79-'80 model. So far it appears to me that changing the cowl, hood, and radiator support, would be all I'd need to do. Since I want to do the S&S PW, I wouldn't need a grille or bumpers. The reason I'm asking is that I have found a '77 long bed military PW with absolutely no dents dings or rust cheap. The seats are in pretty bad shape, but the interior is clean, and the dash pad is very nice. The truck currently has no engine, but I'm told the original was a 360. The current owner bought a Cummins diesel for the truck but ran out of money to finish the swap. The Cummins is for sale seperately, but he said if I bought the truck he'd give me a great deal on the engine. I do like the idea of Rick Simon's Power Wagon having a Diesel, but that's a little more work than I was hoping for. That part of it is a little out of my comfort / skill range.
Thanks!!

Hi,
You can swap on the parts needed to make it look the way you want no problem. The rad support is not totally necessary to swap, but the 77-78 type has two holes for the signal light wires to pass thru. Also if swapping rad supports, watch for the rad mounting brackets-there were two types one with a narrow mount for the 22 inch rads, and one with a wider mount for the 26 inch rads.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm going to talk to the guy this week. Still unsure what I want to do about the Cummins, but the body on the truck is completely rust free.

do the cummins. you wont regret it. its all more or less a bolt in deal, since the trucks remained unchaged for the most part. i say go for it.

It's been a little while since I talked to the seller. I called him today to see if he still had the truck, and he said he did, but his price today was almost double what it was when I first spoke with him. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. I'd like to have the truck, but I'm looking at almost $6000 with the Cummins now.

I jumped on this one because the price was right. I'm going to continue looking.

i would too. for $6k you could buy a slightly rusty cummins truck and put the 70's steel on it.
