I also remember the article stating that Machos were primarily a western US thing.
That explains a whole lot to this old Southern boy!
For the longest time now I've been perplexed as to why I have never even seen a Macho! True! I have never seen a real one! Only in pictures! Power Wagons are rare enough here in the Southeast! 98% of the trucks you see here from those years will be Chevy or Ford. When I look for Power Wagons and Machos on Craigslist or Ebay, almost invariably they will be located west of the Mississippi. It's almost a joke in my mind now. I'll see one I'm really interested in, then look for the location of the truck and it will be in Seattle or Sacramento!
The closest Machos I've seen to me were in Tennessee and Virginia. I was really interested in the one from Tennessee and he was asking a reasonable price, but at the time my "hobby cash flow" went to zero and I couldn't justify it. I have hopes my luck will change and I'll find the perfect truck at a time I have the cash on hand to buy it!
