As I am building / rebuilding my Macho Powerwagon, I want to retain the original look as much as possible even though I am upgrading from 5 lug 1/2 ton gear to 8 lug D60/D70. These trucks originally come with 15x8 eight spoke wagon wheels. I've found 16x8s that look very similar at Summit Racing, U.S. Wheel 70-7880 onto which I will be mounting LT285/75R16 DuraTracs (with some help from 2" Skyjacker kit).
So, the big question, what is the best way to take these new wheels from white to Chrome Yellow (here's some trivia - DT 2245 / PPG 81280 was very popular on school buses... never noticed the similarity until I was researching, go figure).
Sandblast the new rims, or paint over the existing finish?
Paint or powdercoat or something else?
I was told should go very thin in any case so finish will not crack with hard usage offroad.
I would rather do this once and right, cost not the limiting factor.
Any thoughts, ideas, examples appreciated!
