Ok new engine is here. It's been a long time since I've worked on these trucks. I know I'm going to make a few people upset cause I'm not leaving it stock but......sorry. anyway I'm removing the tired 318 and putting in a fresh 360 my question is which accessories won't interchange and I'm replacing the balancer will the converter also need to be replaced. And I have a 1968 318 in the shop with an aluminum intake. Will this fit the 78 360? |

lexusbratton, Sounds like a good project. The 360 engine is externally balanced by a specially weighted TQ. You can use the 318 TQ if you purchase an aftermarket 360 weighted flex plate. Summit HP parts house has the flex plate for about $90. The '68 318 intake manifold will fit the '78 360 with no problems. Also the passinger side motor mount "bracket" on the 360 is a shortered version of the 318. If you use the 318 bracket the 360 motor the rubber mount will not line up to the frame MM bracket. My suggestion is to find another 360 engine (Pick&Pull type yard) and grab the engine MM brackets. |

Thanks so much. You know back on the day when I was 17 I yanked out the 318 from my old macho and put in a 360 I forgot all about those motor mount brackets. I have a pair from a van that I think is what I used last time. Thanks for the heads up on the flex plate |

Nope. But I have a 360 pan in the shop thanks. When I swapped in a 360 into my old truck, it was a complete carb to pan used motor. This one is brand spanking new long block. Thanks again I'm driving the macho to work one last time today. Motor comes out tomorrow. |

I think you are talking about the front harmonic balancer right? Your Mopar dealer should have them @ Mopar Performance P5007301, @ $100 Summit racing has them also, same price/free shipping on the holiday too! |

You guys are great. Thanks again. Ok here's a quick background about me because I feel like a goob asking some of these questions. I have been a master Lexus tech for the past 10 years. I'm used to going to a parts dept and getting anything I need. This is my first old truck build and want to do it right. I'm sure I'll have more questions and just want to thank everyone who's helping me. Oh and the seats are going out Tuesday and the paint guy is coming by as well for preliminary paint and body inspection. I'd post pics if I could figure out how. |
