I think most people look at 70s Vans and think
Shaggin Wagon, Sin Bin, or SERIAL KILLER.
While the first two may be likely, the really
anti social third is a bit out of proportion.

As a kid we always went to the Van and Custom
show at the Event Center in Reno (uh, that would
be the 70s). I've never forgot how amazing the Custom
Vans were. It was hard to imagine how normal people
had obtained something so extravagant.

In the past few years, I've really noticed a lot of 70s and 80s
Vans in our Pic n Pulls. Even more are getting destroyed in
California. The Bay area was a real West Coast Hotbed
(perfect description) for Sin Bins. There were a large #
of very prolific Customizors.

Sadly, most had very tawdry lives, and many are now at the
bottom of the Socio/Automotive ladder on their way to
Euthanasia.

The real Van People are still quite active and have some very
large sites. It seems that The Dodge Street Van really deserves
a spot on the board with it's other Adult Toy Pals.

Oh, and I just (with advice from Sam) bought a really cool
example. It's a 78 Shorty 318 auto in original Citron Green
Metallic, that is dead straight and rust free. Within a few
hours of proud ownership I added a set of 7" Chrome slots
and some day will restore it to Vintage Class.

There are lots of very cool ads and sales pics that could be
tossed in and some cross promotiuon could take place on some
of the Van sights.

OK, going camping, more chat next week.

LAST440, that's a great idea! I'll transfer these over to it's own new forum if it's okay by you. :)

Looking at that van makes me want to slide Led Zeppelin into the eight track and twist up a few... lol! I stop "twisting" many years ago but still listen to Zeppelin on occasion. 8-)

I had a pal in Oregon who was in love with his 78 shorty Street Van. It had a 68 340 and 4 speed, and that's what he towed his 70 'Bee to the track with. The best part was that he still had the mullet and studded leather jacket, and wore them with pride. This was only a few years ago, not the 70's. I wish I had pics of that rusty van.

If I can work it out, I'll take some pictures of this guy here in town that drives and old van and I'm pretty sure it's a mid seventies Dodge.

This may sound like a fabrication but I swear it's the truth. He has hair down to his shoulders, wears glasses that look like the bottoms of coke bottles and never wears shoes! Even when it's in the twenties like it is today!

His van is literally covered... every square inch (except the front windows) with bible verses and paragraphs from the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. If you're ever anywhere in his vicinity, he'll tell you all about government cover ups, Trilateralists, Council on Foreign Relations, Bohemian Grove, black helicopters and the like. Actually, if you can get him off those subjects, he's a pretty interesting guy and is quite brilliant.

That van though is something to see. It looks like something straight out of a late sixties movie.
