i got a 79 w150 on 35s with 4.10s the trans went out, it just rolls and wont lock into any gear or park. i was told the shifter rod is broke inside the trans. now on top of the trans going out, thsi might be a good thing cause i have another trans but i want a selectable tcase this time, its a mud truck and just toy, so can i just swap the tcase without swapping the axles? i can put lockouts in the front if need be. the case is wat runs the full time so i dont see why i couldnt?

You know, the full time system from 74-79 is the best off road set up. Why change it if it's a Mud / fun truck. The axle up grade you have is an excellent choice for the 35" tires. Why spend more money on something you don't need. The only weak link in that system is the front wheel bearings (1/2T or 3/4). Just keep them lubed for your use after each mud run/trip.

If I recall from the overhaul I did on my own 727TF in my 75 PW, you should be able to see the shifter rod by pulling the valve body. As far as changing the transmission and transfer case to get part-time 4wd I agree with the above poster. There are some who say if you make it a part-time 4x4 you are neutering your truck. I have heard of doing a part-time mod. to the t-case and not doing the front axle upgrades and hubs. You still would need to pay special attention to those hub bearings.

Here is a pic of the valve body top-side showing the shift rod attached. Be pretty easy to find out if it's broken.
