Hello, I'm working on my W400 and would like some recommedations for it's 360 engine. The truck has a 435 trans, 203 transfer case, dana 60 front and 70 rear w/ 4.99 gears. Currently the truck is stock with about 21,000 miles (and who knows how many hours of idling) and I would like to replace the cam and carb to get more power. What would you recommend for this truck. Any machine work that I should have done?

first off....NICE W400!!
do you have to worry about emissions there?
If not, I would go with a mild setup myself....
1968-9 340 hp manual camshaft...late model swirl port 360 heads-or-360 "J" heads...aluminum single plane intake....4bbl edelbrock carb...headers with 2 1/2 - 3" collector and some good dual exhaust.....also make sure the vacuum advance is working on the dist, and add light advance springs to the weights...
If your going to build it, I would also bump up the compression a bit, maybe 9.5-to-1 or so...

Thanks. No worries about emissions here, anything older than 1980 is exempt. I'm putting a dump bed on this truck for hauling gravel, dirt, and such around the house. I'm wondering why a single plane intake? I've always had dual planes on my trucks and have never played with a single before. What advantage would it give?

Thanks, Scott
